bz designstuff is a design, art + illustration studio located (just) outside of philadelphia.
The "BZ" of bz designstuff is Barbara Rose (Zuckerman) Chotiner. Barbara Chotiner is an artist, designer, mom, and coffee lover, who lives, works, and creates in a pretty little suburb just outside Philadelphia, PA. Previously she has lived in New York City (her first love) as well as Boston.
Barb creates colorful, whimsical and sophisticated designs for numerous clients, and is a fan of combining traditional techniques with modern approaches. What starts as a simple doodle usually ends up living among numerous (organized) layers in the computer. She is inspired by large cities, small elements found in nature, and Scandinavian design. With her work, she believes in organized chaos and making people smile.
She has BFA in Communications Design from Syracuse University and an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts. She has worked with numerous design firms & ad agencies (both small & large) and was an in house designer at Jim Henson Productions. In 2001, Barb founded “bz designstuff,” a freelance art & design studio. In 2009, she began to license her art and started to work with Tiny Prints where she sold her holiday card and invitation designs under the name “Umbrella.” In 2014, Barbara licensed her artwork to companies (to place on products) and can now be found at places such as Oopsy Daisy, Studio-M, DENY Designs, West Elm Local, and in 2017 she will have wall art in TJ Maxx. In 2017, Barbara is also overjoyed to announce that she will have 5 childrens picture books that she has illustrated in the marketplace.
When Barb is not sketching in her studio or sitting at her Mac, she can usually be found with her two medium sized children either playing around outside, thinking of new art projects, or taking out excessive amounts of childrens’ books from the local library.
